A Community Partner’s Perspective on Hope Squad Maine

– Adam Norton, Outreach Supervisor, Milestone Recovery’s Home Team, gives his testimonial on founder, Matt Brown, and Hope Squad Maine’s support

“I believe that Hope Squad Maine is an integral part of the community. Matt Brown is one of the kindest and most compassionate men I have ever met, and his capacity for empathy coupled with his drive for Hope squad, carries the torch of love for our community members who, in the moment, have forgotten that they are deserving of it.  I have seen first hand this torch alight the faces of those fumbling through the metaphorical dark roads of recovery, and shine light on potential pathways to recovery success for those that couldn’t see “a way”.  To Loosely quote Matt himself “We have to love them so they can love themselves again…”

Personally as an outreach worker that works for another agency, Hope Squad Maine has been there on multiple occasions when I called for assistance.  Better than that, Hope Squad has been able to respond to situations we were called in for but were otherwise engaged.  As part of an agency that catches those that fall through the cracks, being able to call someone in to assist in the catch is invaluable.

Since its creation I have seen Hope Squad fill the cracks and holes in the foundation of the community providing hope for those that have abandoned it.  Quite frankly it’s a mission that needs to continue, led by a man of integrity, and carried out by a splendid squad of humans that both spread joy and sit in sadness with their community.”
