As the homelessness crisis worsens and resources dwindle, Hope Squad Maine responds.
The homelessness crisis in Maine has become more challenging each day, while resources continue to shrink. Thanks to a grant from the Samuel L. Cohen Foundation, Hope Squad Maine has expanded its outreach.
Starting in March 2025, we added additional activities:
Fridays:
-
Expanded outreach efforts.
-
Early‑morning rides to area methadone clinics. Medication‑Assisted Treatment is vital for those with Opioid Use Disorder—but getting to the clinics daily is a major challenge. Since March, we’ve provided close to 175 transports. Despite increased insurance costs, we’ve absorbed the extra expense.
-
Preble Street Outreach Collaborative and Grace‑Street Ministry have joined clinic trips, deepening relationships with both our friends and community partners.
Thursdays:
-
A discussion group at the shelter.
-
Several hours of focused street outreach to connect with our most vulnerable unsheltered neighbors.
Typical weekly impact:
-
200–250 individuals engaged
-
10–15 transports provided
-
Collaboration with at least 5 community partners
-
5 referrals to local resources
These expanded efforts have increased costs for fuel and ambulance upkeep, heightened the need for food and drink supplies, and required more logistical and volunteer coordination.
We’re incredibly grateful for your continued support, which makes this work possible.
A small plea: As we meet increased demand, we’re still stretched thin. Your donations of funds and supplies (like bottled water, snacks, backpacks), would empower us to sustain and grow these vital services. Thank you for helping us bring hope and practical support to our neighbors in need.
